Jira integration with Google Authentication

I am trying to connect to our hosted JIRA  instance by providing my Username and Google password but I can't connect.

    You can use an API token in place of your password in the configure Jira dialog.  First you need to create a token.

    1. Log in to https://id.atlassian.com.
    2. Click API tokens, then Create API token.
    3. Use Copy to clipboard, 
    4. and paste the token to your Jira Settings  password using your gmail account as the email address.
